Ins/Outs for 2026

Declaring my intentions for what I want more/less of in the new year.

Out with / Less of

  • doomscrolling and dumbscrolling
  • “minimalism” but it’s just sanitation and/or holding back
  • consumerism; passive following of trends; shiny object syndrome; impulse buying
  • posting is embarrassing and attention-seeking
  • canned sketches of identity; “the already formed idea of a person”
  • purposeless accumulation of knowledge and ideas
  • forcing friendships or community
  • ignoring my body’s signals
  • forced to understand where everyone’s coming from
  • perfectionist shame spiral

In with / More of

  • intellectualism & longform, interesting media
  • minimalism as mindful consumption; maximalism as joy and creative expression
  • liking what I like; investing in tools that work
  • posting is building, teaching, archiving and advocating
  • identity as an ongoing project; “the great effort of construction that is living”
  • metabolic, syncretic, transformative knowledge work
  • nurturing connections I have & being open to new ones
  • investing (time, money, effort) in my health and wellness
  • ethical, nuanced and peer-reviewing hating (criticism)
  • micro-projects; the little Renaissance; start where I am and use what I have; blogging; vlogging; indie web; newsletters; we make, we make, we make
